Timao Foundation For Research & Development

PRAXIS and Timao entered into an ongoing partnership agreement in November 2008.  Under the agreement, PRAXIS provides consulting and training services to Timao Foundation affiliated organizations, and Timao provides PRAXIS with advisory services in the area of public education integrity-based curriculum development.

Mission and History of the Timao Foundation

The Timao Foundation began in 1972 to establish a means of publicizing research findings on human values and was incorporated  in 1978. The role of Timao was then expanded to include educational workshops  on basic human values for teachers, students, and school administrators. Later, business and government leaders nationwide attended workshop presentations. Over one million participants received undergraduate and graduate academic credit through the University of California  or one of the California State Universities. Timao also published books, developed educational games and affective test instruments to help people better apply the research findings on values.

In the early 1980’s, Timao expanded its research activities to provide low cost, effective ways to identify and address personal, interpersonal, and social problems in such areas as substance abuse, diabetes, hypertension, crime prevention, delinquency, violence, and early childhood education. Also in the 1980’s, Timao began establishing demonstration projects to show how basic human values could be enhanced and people could receive a “helping hand” to a better life.

The name “Timao” comes from the Greek word for basic human values and the logo represents its purpose to enhance the human condition by providing a helping hand through research and demonstration programs that promote such values as respect, well-being, rectitude, enlightenment, and skills
